How do I access the new email account? To access your new email account, login to http://www.exchangelabs.com with your full email address and password. What is my new student email address? Your new email address is FLLLLLL9999@student.gwinnetttech.edu
The initial password for your new email account is gtcMMDDYY where MMDDYY is your birthday in mmddyy format. The gtc part of the password must be in lowercase letters. All GTC students are assigned a new email account when they register for their first credit course. Email accounts are created one business day after you register for your first class. How long can I keep my account ? You can keep your email account for life, but it will change to a @alum.gwinnetttech.edu address after leaving the school for over one year. We will provide you with more information about this in the coming weeks. Will this new email address work with my online Banner account and with Blackboard? Yes, on February 15th, 2008 your Banner and Blackboard email addresses will change to this new email account and all official school correspondence will be sent to this new email account. Each mailbox has 5GB of storage. Once you reach this limit, no new email will be delivered to your mailbox. Are there delivery restrictions with my new GTC email address? No, there are no more email restrictions with your new email account. You can send and receive email to and from any account on the internet. What if I lose my username or password? You should be able to determine your email address using the rules listed above. Unless you have changed your Webmail password, it should be your birthday in gtcMMDDYY format where MMDDYY is your birthday in mmddyy format. If you still can’t access your account, contact Webcentral at (678) 226-6411. Reset requests must be made by phone and will require the student to have his/her Banner ID number available. WebCentral staff may validate other information on file to verify student’s identity. If your last name changes, contact WebCentral to request a change to your Webmail address. Name change requests are processed at the end of each quarter and will be effective with the start of the next quarter. This will insure that no Blackboard information will be lost during a class quarter. Blackboard information is reset each quarter so nothing will be copied. You will be responsible for forwarding any existing messages to your new email address. After 30 days, your old address will be deleted. When can I start using the new system? Your new email account has already been created. You can begin using the new system on February 1st, 2008. On February 15th, 2008, your Banner and Blackboard GTC email address will automatically be updated with your new email address. All GTC generated emails will use your new email address starting February 15th, 2008. What about email messages in my current (old) GTC mailbox? GTC is enabling outbound email on the current (old) email system. This will allow you to forward specific messages to your new email address. You will have to forward messages individually to your new account. Existing messages will not be automatically moved to the new system. How long can I use the current (old) system? The current (old) system will be shut down on Friday, February 29th, 2008. Do I have to use the Outlook Web Access (OWA) email client? While this is the preferred web client, the new mail system also supports most POP3-compliant or IMAP4-complient email applications. Listed below are the settings required to configure your email client. POP and IMAP clients only support basic e-mail functionality. Calendaring, contacts, and tasks are not synchronized with POP and IMAP clients. GTC only provides support for the OWA client. Can I recover lost or deleted messages? Deleted messages are stored in the “Deleted Items” folder within OWA. Once messages are deleted from the “Deleted Items” folder, they are permanently deleted. GTC cannot recover any deleted items from individual student mailboxes. GTC recommends downloading important messages and attachments to a computer or portable storage device. |
